self portrait challenge - all of me #2

P10005541286.jpg

once I was addicted to the New Kids on the Block. then one day I fell in love with Zach Morris.

one gleeful snippet of my adolescence melting years of solitude. a tv contest. a dinner. sparking shy giggles and excessive sweating. and still stirring candid and unalloyed from the shattered teenage girl inside. reminding me that yes, sometimes. dreams do come true.

Oh how i relate to this post. From NKOTB to Zach Morris. In high school, much to my roommates chagrin, I had a huge Zach Morris picture on our wall. And I am still known to every now and then think "I wish I could take a Zach timeout" - and stop time and pause and talk to "the camera" about what I am experiencing in a moment in time.

Oh wow, thats awesome you got to meet him! I am sure you were the envy of ALOT of teenage girls! I was always so envious of Kelly's gorgeous hair! My daughter LOVED this when she was like 9 or 10 years old, she is 18 now. This picture just brought back alot of her childhood crushes!

Oh, how adorable! Your reference to NKOB makes me think you're a few years younger than me though. My sister loved them. I was more a Rick Springfield, Kirk Cameron kind of crusher. Oh, and Patrick Swayze...hubba, hubba!

I must admit that I had NO idea who the heck Zach Morris is. (My young cousin once auditioned for "Saved by the Bell.") This is adorable...you...with your crushes... ;)

Irene,

Probably the most tender time in your life, and you shared it with us, despite the embarrassment of adolescent angst and pictures. You continue to amaze me.

I count it as brave that I haven't completely destroyed all those awful pictures of myself from that time (and trust me, mine were really awful. I didn't look nearly as cute as you did.) You are so courageous!

As for me, hate to admit it, but Corey Feldman (only at Goonies time, after that he turned into a freak) and the big hair bands (Bon Jovi, White Whatever [there were a lot of "White" bands]) were my cup of tea. By NKOTB and SBTB I was over that, but then again, I am an ancient one.

Congrats on wowing us once again.

That would SO never happen to me. I grew up at a time when Marcia Brady's meeting Davey Jones just about sent me into a little coma of delight. I can only imagine your youthful joy.

Sorry, I never got into NKOTB, but I loved Saved by the Bell. My crush on 'Zach' continues today. Mark-Paul Gosselar is the only reason I watch,'Commander In Chief'. Oh yeah. The President is a woman, too. That rocks!
Thank you for sharing some of your youthful obsessions, Irene.
ahahah Zach! i guess i watched Saved By The Bell more than i remember doing so, because I remember the entire gang and their names. i always cheered for the underdog, so my favorite was Screech.

you've got it, sister. And I promise you that if we ever meet in person, I will show you the first few moves of the dance I did to that song at eighth grade band camp.
