God is busy on Sunday

full-time single-parent day #2.

my exhaustion is dangerously expanding. I know, I know. two days. I am racked with shame. so today I decided to purge my dimming sanity and dusted, scrubbed, swept, washed, wiped and freshened my sons' room as if I could hide my obvious defeat with a tidy and sanitized house. I do that once in a while because it gives me a false -yet much needed- sense of control over my life. but. right. now. pillows are flying. 3 year-old bodies are vaulting and propelling into the air. the unceasing "what we do now Mommy?" is unbelievably irritating. and my head is getting misty.

why. oh why.

and then I remember.

God is busy on Sunday.

I clean like a mad woman when I am frustrated or anxious.
I figure it keeps me busy and the house looks better too.

I also clean when I get frustrated. Maybe it's the only control we moms have sometimes-- Plus, it feels really good to have a clean house, even if it's only for about half an hour.
My favorite cleaning time is right before we leave for a vacation- It's my gift to myself. Coming home exhausted from a long trip to a clean house is pure bliss.
Hang in there, Momster!!

You manage, even when your overwhelmed and frustrated to be funny. This is a major complement. On my good days, when everything is going right, occasionally I'm funny. And again, what you choose to write about rings true for me. I occasionally become an obsessive cleaner. Especially when everything else in my life is spinning wildly out of control. Perhaps its fung shui, but when everything is clean my brain seems to settle a bit. Of course this doesn't make my baby settle at all....I can't imagine two three year olds. Just surviving your day clearly makes you the equivalent of a domestic rock star!

Cleaning helps to sooth my soul, especially throwing away useless things that them husband collects. He never notices them and I've thrown a ton of stuff away in the past 2 years and he hasn't even asked one where "such 'n such" is? So, it's ok, right?

I think I'm the only one who doesn't have the "clean gene" built in to me. Don't get me wrong - I love a clean house or room, but I don't NEED things to be clean and certainly will turn to other vices when stressed or frustrated. You will not catch me cleaning when I can be sipping a Bacardi and Diet on the front porch or watching some bad reality TV instead.

LOL... but mother's never get a day off. Darn shame! When your dh gets home, I think you need a day at the spa.

I'm with Carol on this one. I can find a lot of things to do instead of cleaning!

Hang in there, Irene, and remember you are not alone.

Maybe God is busy resting?

I kid, we all do it, clean like a man woman when we feel like nothing else is ok.
